Do I need an amplifier if my turntable has a preamp?
A common question we get at Fluance is whether an amplifier is needed if the turntable has a preamp.
The answer is yes, but there are two different scenarios.
This can be in the form of an external amplifier/receiver which is needed to power speakers such as the Elite(SX6), Reference(XL8S), and Signature(HFS) Bookshelf Speakers.
OR
A built-in amplifier like the ones found in our Ai41, Ai61, and Ai81 Powered Speakers.
What does a preamp do?
Phono preamps do not have the power output to run speakers on their own. The purpose of a phono preamp is to raise the very low audio output of a turntable to "line level" so it can be played at normal volume levels.
