How can I tell if my anti-skate is working correctly?

Set a baseline

  1. Match your anti-skate to your tracking force
    1. (Example: 2.0g tracking force → anti-skate set to 2)
    2. Note: This is a starting point, as dial accuracy can vary.
  2. Use a blank record, test record, or even the underside of a CD (it may get damaged) to test anti-skate
    1. Place it on the platter
    2. Lower the stylus onto the smooth surface
    3. Watch how the tonearm moves
  3. Check the movement
    1. Drifts inward → anti-skate too low
    2. Drifts outward → anti-skate too high
    3. Stays mostly in place → setting is close

Fine-tune
Make small adjustments and repeat the test until the tonearm movement is minimal and controlled.

Final settings may not match the dial exactly due to normal variation in the spring, use the visual test to dial it in.
