RT82-RT85: Why does my turntable start too fast?
This is completely normal!
The Reference Series turntables (RT82, RT83, RT84, RT85) use a servo sensor to maintain their proper speed.
When you first select the speed, the motor will speed up and the servo will adjust the speed accordingly.
If you're able to hear this change, allow the platter up to 5 seconds to adjust to the selected speed before lowering the stylus.
