Why does my tonearm swing back to the rest?

If you've set up your tonearm but instead of lowering onto the record, your tonearm is floating or swinging back to the rest, the likely cause is that the tracking force was not set.

This can happen when only the counterweight indicator ring is turned while setting the tracking force.

This can be easily resolved by setting the ring back to 0 and turning the entire counterweight counter-clockwise until the indicator ring shows the correct tracking force.
